This Morning Routine Will Improve Your Mood (And Your Life)
This Morning Routine Will Improve Your Mood (And Your Life)
by Brianna Hall
Let’s get one thing straight—I am a morning person. If it were up to me, I’d be in bed by 9 PM every night with my Kindle and my dreams. But let’s be real… my evenings are the only time I get to hang out with my husband, Matt, without a toddler climbing on my head or someone needing a snack again. So the late-night scroll or Netflix binge? It happens.
But even on the nights I stay up a little too late, my morning routine is sacred. Over the last year, I’ve built a rhythm that truly shifts my mood and sets the tone for everything else—business, motherhood, relationships, even my anxiety.
If you’re a busy mom running a business (and maybe running on fumes), this is your invitation to create a morning that fuels you, not drains you.
Here’s my best-morning-ever routine—and how it can completely change your energy, your mindset, and your momentum.
1. No Phone, No Scroll. Period.
This is the hardest part for me, but also the most transformative.
The minute you grab your phone in the morning, your brain goes into reactive mode. Emails. Notifications. A highlight reel of everyone else’s life before your feet even hit the floor. No thanks.
Now, I leave my phone across the room and don’t check anything until after my morning routine. No social. No texts. Just presence.
2. High Five Habit (Yes, Literally)
Shoutout to Mel Robbins—this one is weird at first, but wildly effective. Every morning, I look in the mirror and give myself a high five. No, it doesn’t feel natural. Yes, it feels silly at first. But it triggers something powerful: self-recognition.
It’s a micro-moment of, “I’ve got you. We’re doing this.” Try it. It changes how you show up.
3. Bible Reading and Journaling
This is my quiet pocket of peace. I pour my coffee (because… obviously ☕), open my Bible, and read a passage that grounds me. Some days it’s a full devotion, some days it’s a single verse that sticks.
Then I journal—nothing fancy. Just a brain dump, gratitude list, or a few affirmations to get my heart and head aligned. This isn’t about perfection; it’s about presence.
4. Embracing the Miracle Morning S.A.V.E.R.S.
Inspired by Hal Elrod's The Miracle Morning, I incorporate the S.A.V.E.R.S. framework into my routine:
Silence: I start with a few minutes of prayer or meditation to center myself.
Affirmations: I speak positive truths over my life, reinforcing my goals and values.
Visualization: I imagine the day ahead, picturing successful outcomes and interactions.
Exercise: A quick stretch or light movement to energize my body.
Reading: A few pages from a personal development book or scripture to feed my mind.
Scribing: Journaling my thoughts, plans, or reflections.
This sequence sets a powerful tone for the day, aligning my mind, body, and spirit.
5. 10-Minute Clean-Up (Game Changer)
You know that overwhelmed feeling when the house is chaos and you haven’t even started work yet? This is my secret weapon: a 10-minute tidy.
I set a timer. I clean just enough to feel calm and clear. I wipe counters, toss toys in bins, and light a candle. It’s amazing what a little order can do for your energy.
6. THEN—and only then—do I start my day.
Not from a place of panic. Not because I’m already behind. But from a place of peace, clarity, and intention.
You Deserve This Too
If you’re a business-owning mama trying to juggle meetings, kids, emails, groceries, and God knows what else… I see you. And I want you to know: you don’t have to run on empty.
Start small. Pick one habit. Protect your morning like it’s your sacred meeting with your future self—because it is.
You’re not lazy. You’re just tired. And this routine? It’s not about hustle. It’s about healing. It’s about reclaiming your power before the world starts demanding everything from you.
So tomorrow morning, try something different. Give yourself the first 30 minutes.
You might just find your whole day shifts.
Let’s be in this together.
